LuxPak Single/Multiple Winders
from BDWF Randy

I received 2 winders from LuxPak about 2 weeks ago. I decided to put both through their paces before writing anything about the winders and their performance.

I can honestly say these are quality winders. Both have their high points and their low points that I will be specific on later.

First, the single winder is very similar to the single winder that I purchased from LuxPak about 2 months ago. Same design but a much, much nicer looking housing. The woodgrain finish with glossy black lid is a great looking winder. The retention system is the typical “pillow inside a slot” that you find on most better quality winders; the pillow will allow just about any size watch to fit comfortably and snugly. The angle of the slot is such that the pillow/watch is held firmly.

The winder is capable of single or bi-directional rotation and has definitely kept my day/date running spot on for about two weeks. The winder is basically silent with only the slightest mechanical sound as it rotates. I would say that compared to several other single winders that I have this one is probably the best constructed. Many of my single winders died after only a few months so I’m confident this one is of much better quality and will last a long time. The engine used is of Japanese origin and the winder comes with a 2 year warranty---that is something I have not had in a single winder before.

Someone needing just a single winder would do a lot worse than picking one of these up. They seem to be well made and only time will tell about the noise level. I will say that the initial single winder I purchased has yet to degrade and is still for the most part silent. I have been informed that the model I received was more of a prototype and the latest models have since been improved to be even quieter. When compared to other brands, such as Orbita and Wolf, the LuxPak single winder offers a very affordable winder of high quality and workmanship for a fraction of the price.

The 6 watch winder is another very large cabinet, this one being covered in a leather like material (could be leather) that looks at home just about anywhere you would want to put it. The case itself is attractive and has 3 slots below, 3 slots above with a storage drawer separating the two. The drawer has cutouts that will accommodate several large watches in separate compartments.

The multi-winder is very quiet, again with only a faint mechanical sound when operational. Each winder is controlled separately by a switch that determines which direction or bi-directional. Again, this model is a prototype and the latest ones are purported to be even quieter, particularly when compared to those products offered by Orbita and Wolf. Since I don’t own either of those products, it’s difficult for me to make a side by side comparison. However, given the substantial price differential when compared to these other brands, the LuxPak winder offers outstanding quality and features for a bargain price. Again, the Japanese engines should provide a long useful life and the 2 year guarantee by LuxPak is a real attractive feature in this price range.

The retention system is very similar to the single winder and one that is familiar to most of us---the pillow/slot system; one suggestion I would make would be for LuxPak to increase the angle of the retention system to make sure the watch/pillow combination is held securely within the housing. Large watches are prone to separating from the housing which could be a problem. This slight adjustment in the angle would assure that the watches are held securely. I have since been advised by them that this suggestion is being implemented. I would highly recommend that anyone looking for a multi-watch winder take a close look at this one. The quality and detail on these winders is amazing given the price points. The 2 year guarantee offered is a very big plus at this level.

As with the single winder, the multi-winder has specs that seem to be far superior to those offered by others, in particular the Orbita and Wolf designs, particulary considering the tremendous price differential when compared to these other brands.

I know that LuxPak has listened to our members for ideas and suggestions and I have no doubt this review will get the same response. LuxPak definitely seems to want to improve both the performance and design of the winders and will take these very minor situations into account.

Overall, I am very pleased with both winders and their performance. For winders in the low to medium price ranges, these and others from LuxPak are certainly worth considering. Delivery is fast and the winders are expertly packaged for protection.

Do yourself a favor and check out their website. Do your own comparisons of models, specs and pricing and I think you’ll agree that LuxPak is offering quality products at prices most every WIS can afford.
